Paderborn is located in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Together with the major cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Bielefeld, Dortmund and many others, Paderborn as a university city and business location has played a role in the past decades in developing the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia into an important economic region for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as for industrial companies and major corporations from all over the world.
As a university city, Paderborn is home to more than 150,000 inhabitants and numerous students from Germany and abroad. In 2020, about 20,000 people studied at the Paderborn campus university, and more than 250 professors (some of them world-renowned) taught there.
In addition to the Faculty of Economics and the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Mechanical Engineering, the University of Paderbon also has a Faculty of Cultural Studies and a Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics, making a total of five faculties. Students are offered a wide range of subjects in the fields of economics, natural sciences and engineering.

Sights and popular destinations
Popular destinations near Paderborn are, for example, the Safari Park, an open wildlife reserve, and the open-air museum in Detmold. Here you can see traditional German buildings from the Middle Ages. Also of historical interest are the Hermann Monument as well as the Externsteine. The Wewelsburg near Paderborn is also a good place for a museum trip. In addition, there are many opportunities to visit famous cities in NRW. Especially the Rhineland (Cologne, Düsseldorf), the Ruhr area (Dortmund, Essen) and Westphalia (Bielefeld, Münster).
Paderborn counts many thousands of visitors every year, who come to visit the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum – the world’s largest computer museum. Heinz Nixdorf was a computer pioneer born in Paderborn, who set worldwide standards with his concept of the computer based on electron tubes and with his company (the later Nixdorf Computer AG). This enterprise, which he moved to his hometown Paderborn in 1959, developed to become world famous and hugely profitable.
