Private day & Boarding School in NRW – North-Rhine Westphalia
One major difference between public schools and private or international schools in Germany is that private schools often offer small class sizes and can therefore provide each student with individual schooling, develop strengths and address weaknesses. In addition, private schools are usually focused on a specific educational goal or specialization, while public schools tend to be generalists.
We as private international school even go further. With an average class-size of 12-15 students and a team of experienced teachers and social educators we can offer a curriculum specially tailored to students with high ambitions.
The International School OWL is thereby dedicated to “bridge the gap” between public schools and private international schools and to prepare students in the highest possible way for studies in either a business or technical/scientific field.

Class-Size, unique Curriculum & daily routines
One secret of the success of the International School OWL is the class-size. Classes are consequently held small (8 – 12 students). This help us to get a better understanding of any student’s progress and gives us a perfect view of our “individuals”, potential weaknesses and strengths.

International School OWL & the Edexcel International Advanced Level (A-Level)
With their two to three-year school education at the International School OWL in Paderborn (Germany), our students earn the German Baccalaureate; a combination of an Edexcel International Advanced Level Certificate with additional German language courses. Similar to the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma), the German Baccalaureate is internationally focused and can therefore open the way to study at top international universities. In addition, our international students learn German from the very beginning and finally reach the level C1, which is required for studying in Germany. Classes are otherwise held in English.
- globally recognised diploma (Edexcel International Advanced Level / A-Level)
- offers numerous advantages over nationally-focused certificates (Abitur)
- recognized by universities in germany and worldwide
- teaching language is English, and a prior knowledge of German is not needed
- students do not have to visit a so-called Studienkolleg (foundation year)
- certifies advanced basic skills as well as key subject-specific qualifications
- high reputation among universities worldwide
The German Baccalaureate programme
The German Baccalaureate provides students with the essential basis for an international career and enables them to study at prestigious universities in Germany as well as international Top-universities. With only 3-4 highly focused subjects national and international students can choose from a wide range of universities and disciplines (engineering, mechatronics,…, business studies, management, natrual science and even medicine).
Student Monitoring & Parents’ Day
We keep the parents of our students up-to-date. From the next school year, parents will receive regular reports showing the strengths and weaknesses as well as the behaviour of their own child.
- regular reports
- PARENTS’ DAYS on a regular basis
- digital meetings (single-meetings) with parents from abroad
- OPEN DAY for local visitors and parents
- parents can meet teachers (online or “offline”)
- parents are always up-to-date

The opportunity to interact with students on an individual basis
“For me as a teacher, a major advantage of the International School OWL is that the teaching and learning environment with small classes and a focused curriculum gives me the opportunity to interact with my students on an individual basis what creates innovative and conductive working conditions. This way pupils get the chance to experience that interactive learning can be plainly and effective.”
