Entry & admission requirements

When applying for the International School OWL, students should have reached a minimum age of 15 and should also have a strong knowledge of English language level B2 or comparable as well as a school leaving certificate or diploma (secondary school leaving certificate, junior high school diploma, middle school leaving certificate or equivalent).

  • Proof of English proficiency: English level B1 (e.g. IELTS 5.5 or equivalent)*
  • Graduation: Middle School, Junior high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age: 15 years

* English language skills can also be proven by a school certificate or any other certificate. We do also offer written exams or interviews to check if the individual language level meets our requirements.

At the International School OWL, classes are held in English.  The German language will be taught from scratch so no German certificate or knowledge of the language is required. Finally, students can reach German level C1, which is required by German universities and universities of applied sciences. Therefore, with the German Baccalaureate programme students are well prepared for a bachelor’s degree programme.

International Students – Visa & individual support

International students who plan to stay in Germany for a longer period of time should first check whether they need to apply for a visa or other important documents and permits (visa regulations).

Some countries have strict visa requirements. Others do not, but in some cases international students are only allowed to stay in a foreign country for a maximum of 90 days. You should consider this before entering the country.

The good news is that Germany is a very cosmopolitan country. Visa regulations are therefore not particularly restrictive and people from abroad are very welcome. For many, a visa exemption therefore applies.

Our team has been working with students from abroad for many years now and is glad to assist you with your visa and other document applications. In addition, we take care of airport transfer and offer various other services for international students

Regular classes begin in October. However, in order to be able to offer our students the best possible support, we do offer preparatory courses in some cases. Therefore, different dates are possible.

Not every student can be present on the first day of school. In the case of a missing visa, open visa applications or due to restrictions on entry, it is not always possible to attend classes immediately.

In these cases, we offer our students the opportunity to attend classes online (up to 6 months). This already works very well!

Basic German language skills are not required. International students start with preparatory German courses and can reach level C1 with their two to three years education (A1 to TestDaF C1).

Our students are slowly guided through the English language lessons. After a brief period of time, the English skills of most students improve significantly. Communication with students of other nationalities then usually works very quickly.

International students should have successfully completed at least nine years of school. Due to the range of different qualifications, we do not limit the qualifications required. Your diploma, school report or.. should be comparable to a Junior High School Leaving Certificate. We check this independently for each student.
